Repairs and Re-pointing of masonry and mortar

Due to the exposed nature of chimney stacks, it is very common for them to suffer deterioration over time, either in the form of cracked and leaking mortar or in actual physical deterioration of the stack itself (see image opposite).

Sometimes, faults with your chimney are picked up on during a gas safety check and these are normally connected with something blocking the flow of smoke through your chimney (see the cleaning section below), but can occasionally be due to smoke escaping through the walls of the chimney stack through physical decay as described above.

At Home Glow, we have a qualified roofer on hand for repairs and re-pointing work to a wide variety of chimney types and sizes.

When a chimney has collapsed, or has clear physical damage to it, it can be stripped down to the remaining intact bricks and rebuilt from there up.  Our skilled tradesmen will lay the brickwork, replace the chimney liner (if it is needed) and even supply new chimney cowls and covers.

As all work of this nature is quoted for prior to commencing work, we are happy to provide written quotations for insurance purposes, should you wish to claim for the damage through your home insurance.

Your repair might not be as serious as needing a full re-build though, so we also offer a minor repair service on an hourly rate basis for all re-pointing and patch-up work you require.

Having Gas Safe registered engineers working for us also means that we can do a full gas safety check and certificate once the work is complete (if a gas appliance uses the chimney).

Replacement Cowls

The most common job we come across, is replacement of chimney cowls that have been blown off during bad weather, or simply become loose over time and come loose.

Through our network of suppliers, we can source and replace any size and style of cowl you require.  If you know the diameter of your chimney pot, or have the existing cowl to take some measurements from, we can even provide a free quotation for supplying and installing a new cowl, so you will know in advance what you are paying.

Chimney Cleaning

Over time, chimneys will invariably become clogged with soot and debris.  In some cases they can even become blocked by birds nests.
